Fr Peyton Centre in Attymass to Host Live Broadcast of Worldwide Prayer for Peace
Attymass, Co. Mayo – August 2026
Hundreds of thousands of Catholics around the world are being invited to unite in prayer for peace as the Global Rosary for Peace returns on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the Feast of Saint John Paul II.
The worldwide prayer initiative, sponsored by Holy Cross Family Ministries and the Congregation of Holy Cross, aims to bring together 250,000 people from around the world in one united Rosary for peace.
The live Global Rosary will take place at 10 a.m. Eastern Time (4 p.m. Rome time) and will unite families, parishes, schools, religious communities and individuals across the world.
The Fr Peyton Centre joins the global prayer
Here in Ireland, the Fr Peyton Centre in Attymass, Co. Mayo, will join this worldwide initiative and will host a live broadcast of the Global Rosary for Peace, inviting families, parishioners, visitors and the wider community to gather together and pray the Rosary.
For the team at the Fr Peyton Centre, the event has a particularly special significance. Attymass is the birthplace of Venerable Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., known throughout the world as “The Rosary Priest.”
Fr Peyton dedicated his life to promoting family prayer and the Rosary, inspiring millions of people around the world through his enduring message:
“A world at prayer is a world at peace.”
He also famously reminded families:
“The family that prays together stays together.”
The Global Rosary for Peace continues Fr Peyton’s worldwide mission, bringing people together across cultures, countries and continents through the simple but powerful act of praying the Rosary.
A worldwide witness of prayer
Last year’s inaugural Global Rosary for Peace brought together 67,523 participants in one continuous Rosary. People from around the world prayed together in more than ten languages, representing a rich diversity of cultures and communities united in one prayer for peace.
This year’s event seeks to build on that extraordinary response, with a goal of engaging 250,000 Catholics worldwide.
The 29 Holy Cross Family Ministries centres and related ministries across 18 countries and six continents will serve as local coordinators. Participants will join from countries including the United States, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Haiti, Brazil, Peru, Chile, France, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Burkina Faso and Ghana.
Major international lay organisations, colleges and schools are also partnering with Holy Cross Family Ministries to encourage families and individuals to take part.
As Father Fred Jenga, C.S.C., President of Holy Cross Family Ministries, has said:
“Peace begins in the hearts of families and communities.”
Nine-week novena and Eucharistic Adoration
Spiritual preparation for the Global Rosary for Peace began on Thursday, August 20, with the start of a nine-week novena leading towards the October event.
In preparation for the worldwide Rosary, parishes and communities are also being invited to participate in 40 Hours of continuous Eucharistic Adoration, placing prayer before the Blessed Sacrament at the heart of this global witness for peace.
Participants are encouraged to register online, place a pin on the Global Rosary map to show where they are praying, and claim their home as a Family Rosary Home.
Parishes are also invited to enrol for the 40 Hours of Eucharistic Adoration.
Praying the Luminous Mysteries
The 2026 Global Rosary for Peace will feature the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, which were introduced to the Church by Saint John Paul II in his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae in 2002.
The Luminous Mysteries invite us to reflect on the public ministry of Jesus and provide a powerful focus for prayer as people around the world unite for peace.
