Attymass Parish

 

Attymass parish is located approximately six miles south of Ballina, County Mayo, with a population of about 750. Nestled at the foot of the Ox Mountains, Attymass offers scenic beauty and tranquility, with its nearby lake and many colourful hills and boglands.

The area is steeped in history, with many artefacts to be seen. These include megalithic tombs, Fulachta Fiadh (ancient cooking sites), Crannógs (artificial islands), standing stones, Celtic ringforts, an Ogham stone and several Early Christian sites — including an abbey and several holy wells.
